Troubleshooting
A reference for the messages Infinihex shows and the situations behind them.
First Launch
Current builds are unsigned. The operating system shows a security warning the first time the app runs. The app is unaffected; the warning is the standard prompt for an app from an unidentified developer.
macOS. Right-click (or Control-click) the app and select Open, then select Open again in the dialog. If macOS reports that the app is "damaged and can't be opened," run this command once in Terminal, then open the app again:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Infinihex.app
Windows. On the SmartScreen prompt, select More info, then Run anyway.
After the first successful open, the app launches normally.
Missing Tilesets or Libraries
If you see a warning banner about missing tilesets or missing libraries, a folder of tile art has moved or been renamed since you last used the map. The affected hexes won't render until the art is reconnected. Use Locate missing tilesets (or Settings → Libraries → Locate…) to point Infinihex at the folder's new location. Nothing is lost; the map keeps the tile references and repairs the moment you relink. See Tilesets & your art.
"Very large map"
When you create or regenerate a map with very large dimensions, Infinihex warns you before proceeding, since a big map takes longer to build and render. You can continue or cancel and choose smaller dimensions.
"Shrinking removes hexes outside the new bounds"
Editing a map to smaller dimensions drops any hexes that fall outside the new size. This is expected; Infinihex flags it so it isn't a surprise. Growing a map is always safe. See Saving & files.
Poles Won't Draw in a Generated Map
If full polar caps are on but no swatch is marked as the polar-cap fill, the poles render empty. Check "Use as polar-cap fill" on one of your generator swatches. See The generator.
"Anchored. This layer can't be deleted."
The bottom layer of every map is anchored and can't be removed. You can still hide, lock, or paint on it. See Layers.
The Bundled Tileset Isn't Available
If Infinihex reports that the bundled library can't load, the generator's default swatches won't have art. Open Settings → Libraries to check the bundled library.
A Hex Won't Erase
Erasing acts on the active layer only. A hex that won't clear is usually on a different layer. Select the correct layer in the layer panel, then erase. See Layers.
