Changelog

What each release adds and changes, newest first. This is the user-facing changelog. The v1.0 entry is the full launch feature list; later releases list what changed from there.

v1.0 (Launch)

The first public release. What Infinihex 1.0 does:

Maps

  • Paint hex maps with a brush, a flower brush (a hex plus its six neighbors), or a fill tool. Click and drag to lay down strokes.
  • Flat colors or tile art. Paint with a color from the palette or with any tile from your art. Rotate and flip individual tiles.
  • Layers. Build a map in stacked layers such as terrain, coastlines, and labels, each with its own visibility and lock. Erasing removes a hex from the active layer only.
  • Pointy-top or flat-top hex orientation, set when you create the map.
  • Coordinate labels are drawn from the map's origin and scheme, never stored, so re-numbering and moving the origin just work. Toggle them any time.
  • A grid and a canvas background (follow your theme, a flat color, or an image), each independently toggled.
  • Undo and redo every paint stroke.

The random generator

  • Generate a whole world to start from, with land, coastlines, and terrain roughed in, then paint over anything you want to change.
  • Tune it with dials: land amount, clustering (tight continents vs. scattered islands), climate, dimensions, and the seed.
  • Swatches control what gets placed and where, each with a role, a temperature preference, a weight, and an optional polar-cap fill.
  • Explicit regenerate: changing a dial or a swatch marks the map as pending, and you click Regenerate to roll the new version, so a stray change never surprises you with a full re-roll. Accept commits the map to the canvas; Discard throws the preview away.

Your art

  • A tileset is a folder. Point Infinihex at any folder of tile images to paint with them. Your art is referenced in place, never copied, hidden, or rewritten.
  • Relink moved art. If you move or rename a tileset folder, Infinihex flags the missing tiles and lets you locate the folder again to repair the links.

Files

  • Your map is a single open file (.ihex): portable, and easy to save, re-open, and share. Maps from the older .hxmap format open and convert automatically.
  • Save, Save As, and Open, with a recent-maps list on the start screen.
  • Unsaved-changes prompts before you start a new map, open another, or quit, so you don't lose work.

Export

  • Export to PNG to drop a map into your notes or a virtual tabletop. Choose whether to include the grid, coordinate labels, and background, or export with a transparent background.

Settings and polish

  • Themes, a behavior option to rotate a tile with right-click while painting, and a libraries manager for your registered tileset folders.
  • A keyboard equivalent for every tool and command. See Keyboard shortcuts, or press ? in the app for the same reference.
  • Built as a native desktop app for macOS and Windows, with no browser, no account, and no subscription.
