Layers
A map is built from stacked layers, for example terrain, coastlines, and labels, drawn bottom to top. The layer panel in the top-left rail manages them.
The Active Layer
One layer is always active (highlighted in the panel). Painting and erasing act on the active layer only. Click a layer to make it active before you paint.
Managing Layers
Each layer row has controls for:
- Visibility: the eye toggle hides or shows a layer without deleting it.
- Lock: a locked layer can't be painted or erased, so you can't disturb work you're happy with.
- Reorder: drag a layer up or down to change what draws on top.
- Add / remove: add a new layer, or remove one you no longer need.
The Anchored Layer
Every map keeps one anchored layer that can't be deleted. If you try, Infinihex tells you "Anchored. This layer can't be deleted." This guarantees a map always has at least one layer.
Anchored means undeletable, not fixed in place. The anchored layer can be reordered, hidden, locked, and painted on like any other. It does not have to stay at the bottom of the stack.
Erasing and Layers
Because erasing clears from the active layer only, the fastest way to remove a hex cleanly is to make sure the right layer is active first. A hex that "won't erase" is usually on a different layer than the active one.
